If you keep up with news surrounding the automotive industry, you’re probably aware of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) opening their doors today. Also known simply as the “Detroit Auto Show,” this is one of the largest and most influential car shows in the world, attracting upwards of 1,000,000 visitors during the course of the 2-week long event. Whether you’re a gear head who’s looking to keep up with the latest car models or just looking to get out of the house for a few hours, you should consider attending the Detroit Auto Show.

You might be surprised to hear that the Detroit Auto Show has been going on for over a century (yes, there were cars back then). The very first show was held in 1907 at the Beller’s Beer Garden at Riverside Park. While it started out small and drew only a limited number of people, its popularity soon spread, forcing it to move into larger and more accommodating venues.

What’s At The 2013 Detroit Auto Show?

Manufacturers do a pretty job at keeping their new car models under tight wraps until it comes time to unveil them to the public. With that said, we do know of some models that are expected to be on display during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, one of which is the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. This seventh generation version will offer an impressive 450 horsepower and 450 pounds of torque. GM revealed the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on last night on the eve of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

Of course there will be plenty other new car models on display at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show as well. While the exact number is yet to be determined, some analysts predict up to two dozen new models, many of which are full electric and hybrid models. In recent years, there’s been a growing trend shifting towards more energy-efficient vehicles, and that’s exactly what manufacturers are trying to accomplish.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until January 19th to attend the Detroit Auto Show, as the first few days are reserved for industry professionals and journalists. With tickets selling for only $12 bucks, though, you’re sure to get tons of enjoyment for the cost. The 2013 Detroit Auto Show is held in the COBO center in Detroit, Michigan and goes on until January 26th. Tickets for the event can be purchased both online or at the door.
